Pets in Crisis Program:
RSPCA Queensland’s Pets in Crisis program, delivered in partnership with DV Connect since 2005, safeguards pets and aids individuals fleeing domestic violence. 25% of pet owners facing domestic violence do not seek refuge due to fears of partner retribution on pets left behind.
The Pets in Crisis program provides individuals facing DV with emergency pet accommodation, vet care, and preventative health care while they find safe accommodation – making it possible for more Queenslanders to escape domestic violence.
The funds raised for RSPCA Queensland as the REIQ Charity Partner will make it possible for more vulnerable people to escape domestic violence.
In FY23, RSPCA Queensland helped 109 people and 183 pets flee domestic violence, double the number in FY22.With QPS recording a staggering 48% increase of domestic incidents the past six years, the need for support through the Pets in Crisis program is evident.
